Really, time flies! Get it? It’s our 10-year Anniversary!

The team of volunteers at Flying for Life, before flying to Vhembe Limpopo hospitals to give free eye surgeries cataract removal

This year marks a major milestone for Flying for Life. We are celebrating our 10-year anniversary! And that means expansion to new territory, new friends, and partners, and we’re bringing you all with us in 2023’s adventure.

In 2014, the Gondeni Community in Limpopo hosted 50 children in one of the community member’s huts. Flying For Life endeavoured to build a crèche for the children to include their own classrooms, storeroom, restroom facility and water tank. Dignity and upliftment come in many forms. Flying For Life also provided for 2,300 children to have breakfast, daily.

Isolated communities in South Africa - Flying for Life

Are you feeling inspired yet? We can’t wait to do more.

It’s been a decade since our first flight in 2013, our organisation has grown in capacity and impact: working to improve welfare and well-being through healthcare programmes and training. Every journey has its unique challenges along the way and at Flying For Life, we remain dedicated to our mission of empowering rural communities to promote a better quality of life. And we don’t forget to have fun along the way!

As we highlight our progress, we would like to take a moment to commemorate YOU, with your involvement, help and support, we are transforming the landscape for those who are in remote areas. Thank you for accompanying us on this journey.

By helping our patients, you are helping their relatives: An example of this is Margret, we operated on one of her eyes last year. Her impaired vision which led to blindness in both eyes due to the onset of cataracts has resulted in her dependence on her 18-year-old daughter, Reneilwe. She has just finished matric, and the juggle to assist her mother and progress into the work world is, by all means, a challenge. By helping Margret, we are empowering her, and through this, we can give back her daughter’s opportunity to progress.

We are excited to see the projects grow from strength to strength and have Flying for Life projects implemented in other provinces where communities are hard to reach by road.

“Together we believe we can make a sustainable impact in communities that are isolated and sometimes forgotten.”

So, what’s next?

Our first flight takes place this weekend. Don’t forget to look up! We’ll be waving. Keep an eye out for flight success feedback and impact stories across our socials.
