This is our story.

Our History

In 2010, Mission Aviation Fellowship South Africa (MAF SA) identified rural communities in South Africa that needed upliftment but were too difficult and time consuming to get to by road. These communities often lacked the necessary resources for proper care and upliftment. This led to the creation of Flying for Life, a registered Section 18A, a Public Benefit Organisation.

This status also enables local South African companies and individuals to receive a tax deduction for donating and supporting the work. Flying For Life was officially launched in the second part of 2011, flying ophthalmologists to the Vhembe District of Limpopo, with the vision of reaching other rural parts of South Africa.

Our Present

Many South Africans living in poverty struggle with access to institutions that exist to address their needs, due to a lack of resources and economic stability. Flying For Life offers a faster, safer, and more practical solution by flying to such areas. We exist to provide the benefits of air transport to healthcare and education problems in rural communities. This, most importantly, maximises our volunteer professional’s time on the ground. Flying enables us to help more people with the resources we have.

Flying For Life strives to bring help and healing to those in need, and hope to the hopeless. Our aim is to sustainably uplift rural communities, especially those in isolated areas, through aviation. We are in the pursuit of making an impact that will last.

At Flying for Life, we believe in working together and pooling resources to achieve a common vision. We can contribute significantly to the needs of rural communities by collaborating with other non-profit organisations, medical professionals, community leaders and government bodies. Together, we bring smiles, restore eyesight, and develop skills through our healthcare, disability care, dental care, eye care and cancer awareness projects.

Our Future

We are excited to see the impact that our upliftment will bring and the real-life effect this will have on people’s lives. With your help, more and more communities can be empowered across South Africa. By contributing through volunteering or by donating, you can make a difference today.

Join us in remembering the forgotten and strengthening our South Africa by strengthening our rural communities.
